The offshore outsourcing industry has grown leaps and bounds in the last decade and the options available for customers have also increased.
From innovative engagement models to customized packages and geographical preferences customers now have a whole list of possible options to choose from.
Though India is the fore runner in Software outsourcing with some of the largest services corporations based there, other countries such as china, Vietnam, and European countries joining the bandwagon with commendable performances of delivery. Customers in US also have options through what now people call as near-shore where many companies based in South American countries have been providing similar services.
Again cost, accessibility, expertise, infrastructure, resource availability engagement preferences and business value all drive customers to choose one location over other. While this reason is purely a choice of the customer, it should be noted that India has headway from being one of the earliest offshore destinations and remains one of the largest.

In my experience I have seen customers use two different providers to test and end up with one. Some battles we have won while some we have lost. So the final choice rests with the customer who sees the value through his own eyes.

Since there are many companies benefiting from it and some not getting on well with it, you can assume that offshoring is good when done properly and tuned to your needs.
